A 25 year old Southeast DC man was arrested today in connection with a fatal 2007 shooting, MPD said Thursday evening.
In a press release, MPD said the man, identified as William J. Douglas, is suspected of first-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of Kirk Hart.

WASHINGTON - Gerald Anderson, 22, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced today to 35 years in prison on charges stemming from the 2007 murder of a man at an apartment complex in Northwest Washington, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

As the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death approaches, Albrecht Muth remains mentally incompetent to stand trial and is, for the time being, destined to remain in psychiatric custody at St Elisabeths.
Muth, 48, made a rare court appearance Thursday for a hearing on his mental health and ability to stand trial. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Viola Drath. He has not been arraigned on the charge because doctors have found him to be temporarily incompetent for trial.
While reports from St Elizabeths suggest that Muth may be able to stand trial in the future, reports from independent experts hired by prosecutors and defense attorneys are likely to offer differing opinions. Prosecutors anticipate that their experts will find Muth competent and defense attorneys anticipate that theirs will not.

A DC man acquitted of murder and assault charges was sentenced today to 30 months in prison on charges that he did have a weapon the night a DC teen was killed, even though he didn’t fire a shot.
Zachary Sims, 19, was found innocent in May of the most serious charges against him, after a DC jury found that there was not sufficient evidence to believe that Sims killed 16-year-old Jamal Bell following a graduation party in June 2010.

Joseph Peoples was ordered held today pending a preliminary hearing after Judge Karen Howze ruled that there was substantial probability that he engaged in a shootout in Southeast DC killing one man and injuring another.

It was DC’s deadliest week this year: four shootings and a stabbing leaving five men dead and five more injured.
The victims: Crevontai Key, 19, Julius Barnett Ellington, 35, Charles Anthony Scott Jr, 20, Michael Edward Jones, 30, and Davon Brown, 22.
As of Wednesday night, four of those cases had been closed with an arrest.
