MPD has released the following information about Kirk Garnes, found dead in Lamond-Rigs Saturday morning.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 5500 block of 3rd Street, NE.
On Saturday, April 2, 2011, at approximately 8:10 am, units from the Fourth District were dispatched to the 200 block of Riggs Road, NE to investigate the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, they located an adult male in the rear of the 5500 block of 3rd Street, NE unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from apparent blunt force trauma. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim had no signs of life. The victim was pronounced dead by a member of the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Subsequently, the decedent was transported to the OCME pending an autopsy.The decedent has been identified as 60-year-old Kirk Garnes, an adult male, of no fixed address.
