A 31-year-old homeless man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Christopher Freeman in Southeast DC on Aug. 5.
James Fields is suspected of second-degree murder while armed in the case, MPD said in a press release.

Arrest Made in the Homicide of Christopher Freeman
( Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest was made in the fatal shooting which occurred in the 300 block of 34th Street, SE.
On Friday August 5, 2011, at approximately 3:00 am, units from the Sixth District responded to the 300 block of 34th Street, SE to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they observed a male in the alley suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life.
The decedent has been identified as 28 year-old Christopher Emanuel Freeman of Southeast, DC
A second victim was also wounded and transported to an area hospital.
On Thursday, August 11, 2011 at approximately 4:30 pm, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 31-year-old James Fields of no fixed address, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
