Alexis Pineda Pleads Innocent in Shooting Death of Jose Hernandez-Romero

Alexis Pineda pleaded innocent today after a grand jury indicted him on a charge of first degree murder while armed in the March 27 shooting that killed Jose Hernandez-Romero in a downtown D.C. restaurant.

Police believe the shooting was random. Court documents say Pineda and Hernandez-Romero, both 24 years old, were at El Sauce on 11th Street NW. Pineda began staring at Hernandez-Romero and asked, “Que Paso?”

When Hernandez-Romero did not answer, witnesses told police, Pineda “produced a handgun from his waistband in his right hand, and shot [Hernandez-Romero] at close range one time,” court documents allege.

A trial is set to begin on June 11, 2012.
