Damien Pannell pleaded guilty this afternoon to voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of Glenn Bailey, a man who Pannell said was fighting with a woman he loved.
Pannel was arrested May 18 on suspicion of second degree murder. Charging documents alleged that the day before his arrest, Pannell stabbed Bailey at least four times, breaking one of his ribs and puncturing his lung. The documents stated that Bailey had been in a fight with a woman in a Northeast DC parking lot and that Pannell broke into the fight to stab Bailey.
“He was trying to hurt someone that I loved and I kinda just lost it,” Pannell told Judge Thomas Motley Friday afternoon. “I didn’t really have time to think and realize what I was doing.”
Pannell, 30, is due to be sentenced on Jan. 11, 2012.
