Temple Hills Man Arrested in 2005 NE DC Homicide

A Temple Hills, Md. man has been arrested in connection with a 2005 shooting in Northeast DC, MPD said.

James Presley Harris, 31, died in that shooting. Jamel Callis, 26, is suspected of first degree murder while armed, MPD said.

Arrest Made in a 2005 Homicide in the 4500 Block of Quarles Street, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Departments Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the 2005 fatal shooting that occurred in the 4500 block of Quarles Street, NE.

On Friday, September 2, 2005, at approximately 12:40 am, units from the Sixth District responded to the 4500 block of Quarles Street, NE for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they located 31-year-old James Presley Harris, of Southeast, Washington, DC, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire Department and Emergency Medical personnel responded to the scene but found no signs consistent with life. He was later pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

On Thursday, March 29, 2012, at approximately 7:45 am, members from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 26 year-old Jamel Callis, of Temple Hills, Maryland, pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged him with Murder One while Armed in the homicide of James Presley Harris.
