Kevon Austin Held in Murder of Gregory Troxler

Kevon Austin, an 18-year-old D.C. resident also known as “K-man” or “Caveman,” was charged Monday in connection with the Oct. 10 murder of Gregory Troxler.

Judge Karen Howze found that there was probable cause and ruled that Austin is a danger to the community. She ordered him held without bail.

Charging documents allege that Austin shot Troxler five times in his head, chest, buttocks and forearm, about 3:51 p.m. on Oct. 10., in an alley off of the 1100 block of 8th Street Northeast.

Austin was arrested on Oct. 12 on an unrelated simple assault and destruction of property charge and for failing to appear in court on a charge of operating an off-road vehicle.

On Oct. 9, Austin had been entered into the court’s Electronic Monitoring Program and he was given a GPS ankle bracelet. Less than an hour before the Troxler’s death on Oct. 10, Austin’s bracelet stopped emitting a GPS signal, and the signal didn’t return until 8:43 p.m. that day.
