A 26-year-old Southeast DC man has died after being shot by police Monday afternoon.
The man, identified by police as Robert Brown, had run from police who were in the 4900 block of G Street, Southeast investigating a case. The Washington Post reports that that investigation was into the weekend shooting death of Rokeida Spriggs.
A press release from MPD states that after running from police, Brown was involved in a “physical altercation” with police and he produced a handgun.
Says MPD:
The officer ordered the suspect several times to drop the weapon, but the suspect did not comply.Fearing for his life, the police officer discharged his service weapon and struck the suspect multiple times. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Fatal Police Involved Shooting: 4900 Block of G Street, SE
(Washington, DC) – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal police involved shooting which occurred in the 4900 block of G Street, Southeast.
Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 4:45 pm on Monday, November 25, 2013, an on duty Sixth District police officer was following up on an investigation in the 4900 block of G Street, Southeast. While investigating, the officer, a 12-year veteran, encountered a man inside an apartment building in the 4900 block of G Street SE, where a recent homicide occurred and tried to stop and speak with him. The man fled, and the officer pursued.
Outside, a physical altercation ensued, at which time the suspect produced a handgun. The officer ordered the suspect several times to drop the weapon, but the suspect did not comply.
Fearing for his life, the police officer discharged his service weapon and struck the suspect multiple times. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect has been identified as 26 year-old Robert Brown of Southeast, Washington, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division in conjunction with the Sixth District Detectives Unit are conducting the investigation.
