A shooting in the 1400 block of Howard Road Southeast, a few blocks from Anacostia Metro station, killed a 19-year-old man, according to news reports.
NBC Washington reports the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. The man was transported to a nearby hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he died shortly after arrival.
Police had a lengthy crime scene taped off, with several evidence markers placed in the street. Newsham said the shooting occurred in the middle of the street and that the victim was struck several times.
A woman who lives in an apartment overlooking the crime scene said she heard eight to 10 shots but didn’t see anything. “It’s got to stop,” the woman said of the violence. “There are too many kids out here.” The woman declined to give her name, citing the violence.
