Kevin Walker plead innocent to all charges Friday in connection to the shooting death of siblings, Jamie Jenkins, 28, and Jamahl Jenkins, 21 in July 2013.
Walker is charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of possession of a firearm and one count of carrying a pistol without a license.
During an arraignment hearing Friday, prosecutor Magdalena Acevedo presented a plea offer that would charge Walker with two counts of second degree murder and drop all other charges. The defense has not agreed to the plea offer. A status hearing is scheduled for May 16, at 10:30.
In October Judge Russell Canan found substantial probability for the case against thirty-eight-year-old Walker who goes by the name of “Filet.”
Police documents and witness testimonies describe an altercation between Jamie Jenkins and another women before Walker and Jamahl Jenkins intervened.
One witness told police that they overheard the woman who had fought Jamie Jenkins say that after the fight she went to her house to get her gun to shoot Jamie. But when the woman was inside her home her boyfriend, who goes by the name “Filet,” told her to go back outside and that “He would take care of it,” court documents state.
Charging documents state that a witness told police it saw a large built man wearing dark clothing walk toward Jamie and Jamahl while carrying a gun. Jamie stood in front of Jamahl.
“You’re not going to shoot my brother,” she told the man, the witness said, according to charging documents.
“I don’t pull my gun out unless I’m going to use it,” the witness said the man replied.
“I’m just trying to protect mine like you trying to protect yours,” Jamahl Jenkins responded, court documents state. The witness then saw the man point his gun and fire in the direction of the siblings.
Police found the brother and sister on July 20, 2013 around 4:35 a.m. laying on the sidewalk of the 5300 block of East Capitol Street Northeast shot and unconscious. Jenkins was declared dead on scene and Jamie Jenkins was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
