A 53-year-old woman was found dead inside a Southwest D.C. residence around 4:15 a.m. Friday, police announced in a press release.
Mary Anne Thomas was unconscious and unresponsive when D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a call for a welfare check in the 1200 block of Howison Place Southwest. A medical examiner determined that she died of a gunshot wound.

Homicide: 1200 Block of Howison Place, Southwest
(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 1200 block of Howison Place, Southwest.
On Friday, June 27, 2014, at approximately 4:15 am, members from the First District responded to a call for a check on the welfare in the 1200 block of Howison Place, Southwest. Upon arrival, they located an adult female unconscious and unresponsive inside the residence. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where an autopsy was conducted and determined the decedent suffered a gunshot wound.
The decedent has been identified as 53-year-old Mary Anne Thomas of Southwest, Washington, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
