Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in the investigation of shooting death of Gold Corner Market owner James Oh.
MPD has released a footage of the man they are trying to identify, who was captured by the store’s surveillance camera approximately two hours before the shooting. Below is the video.

One day before jury deliberations are expected to begin, prosecutors dropped first-degree murder charges against Bernard Fleming and Joseph Peoples.
Instead, the two men will be charged with the lesser offense of second-degree murder while armed, as well as tampering with physical evidence and eight related weapons charges. Peoples and Fleming are charged in connection with the June 2012 shooting death of Michael Jones.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the choice to reduce the charges. Read more
Update 12:30 p.m. MPD has identified the man shot in the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue Northeast as 22-year-old Delonta Lavale Martin. A press release from MPD has been added to the bottom of this post.

A male person shot late Sunday evening in the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue Northeast has died from his injuries, according to MPD.
The person’s age and name have not yet been identified.
Police say the person was found suffering with multiple gunshots wounds after officers responded to a call for the sound of gunshots around 9:41 p.m.
MPD is looking for a black male with medium complexion, weighing 180-190 pounds, in connection with the shooting. Read more
The trial of Bernard Fleming and Joseph Peoples, accused of fatally shooting Michael Edward Jones, got underway with opening statements Tuesday. Prosecutors say Fleming and Peoples ambushed and shot at Jones and his brother, killing one and injuring the other.
A judge sentenced 23-year-old James Brown Friday to 18 months in prison for shooting Darnell Rivers after Rivers and another man kidnapped his brother for ransom.
Howard Randolph was sentenced to two years Friday for a fist fight that led to Rayshawn Hailstock’s death, after a single punch on June 30, 2013.
A judge ordered Kevin Boykins to remain in jail Friday in connection with the January shooting death of Kevin Larnard James after a preliminary hearing.

Police found 48-year-old James seated on the driver’s side of a BMW with a gunshot wound to the head on January 16 in the 1500 block of Gallatin Place Northeast. Police believe James was killed after a heated exchange with Boykins via text messages about a debt, documents say.
According to charging documents, James demanded Boykins pay him for money owed and threatened to collect the debt from Boykins’ family if he wasn’t repaid. Boykins promised to pay James that evening, but was offended by the threats to his family, documents say. Read more
Judge Robert Morin sentenced 23-year-old James Brown Friday to 18 months in prison for shooting Darnell Rivers after Rivers and another man kidnapped his brother, Tony Brown, for ransom.
Brown will only serve 2 of those months because Judge Morin decided to sentence Brown “in aggregate” to twenty months in prison, combining two separate incidents. Brown will additionally serve 18 months in prison for attempted first-degree child sex abuse.
Brown, 23, pleaded guilty in May to one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a rifle in connection with Rivers’ death. He was originally charged with first-degree premeditated murder, which can be punished by life in prison. Read more
Judge Lori Parker ordered Lawrence Wilkerson held on suspicion of first-degree murder while armed Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of Rhett Gelb.
Gelb was found shot on May 27, 2013 at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Hamilton Street Northwest next to a Cadillac Escalade, according to charging documents. He died two days later at Washington Hospital Center.
Charging documents in the case say Wilkerson shot Gelb during a drug deal after Gelb tried to pull one of his friends out of the car and away from Wilkerson. Read more
