Gregory Green Indicted in Derrick Williams’ Murder

Gregory Allen Green, 26, pleaded innocent Friday to first-degree murder while armed, armed robbery and three weapons charges for the March shooting death of 35-year-old Derrick Eugene Williams.

On March 29, police found Williams lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head in the 1200 block of Eaton Road Southeast.

Williams was transferred to Washington MedStar Hospital, but lifesaving efforts failed and Williams was pronounced dead shortly after 1:00 a.m.

Charging documents state that a witness told police it saw two suspects standing over Hemphill’s body. The first suspect was pulling Williams’ legs while the second suspect appeared to be taking money out of the Williams’ pockets.

The witness identified the second suspect as “Face,” who it has known for more than 10 years.

When police showed the witness a photograph of Green, the witness said, “Yea that’s him, that’s exactly who it is,” according to the documents.

Green is scheduled to appear before Judge John Johnson for a status hearing on February 6 at 10:30 a.m.
