Monday Night Shooting Victim Identified as Ronnell Daniels

The victim of a fatal Southeast shooting Monday night has been identified as 40-year-old Ronnell Daniels.

According to police, Daniels was found at approximately 11:15 p.m., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the unit block of 55th Street Southeast, near Maryland. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Approximately 15 minutes later, a second fatal shooting was reported that night in the 2600 block of Bowen Road Southeast. Police have not indicated any relation between the two homicides.

Earl Patrick Held in Death of Carlton Coltrane

Judge Karen Howze ordered Earl Patrick held without bond Tuesday in connection with the death of Carlton Coltrane.

Coltrane, 60, was robbed at a 7-Eleven shortly after midnight on May 6 and died of injuries sustained during the robbery three days later, according to arrest documents.

Patrick, 48, is suspected of felony first-degree murder and he is the second suspect to be arrested and held in connection with the case. Zerrick Brown, who is suspected of first-degree murder while armed in the case, was arrested four days before Patrick. Read more

Southeast Shooting Victim Identified as Antwone Dwayne Tolson

A man who died Monday night after being shot in the 2600 block of Bowen Road Southeast has been identified by police. Antwone Dwayne Tolson, 19, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after he was transported there to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Links Roundup: Two Killed in Separate SE D.C. Shootings

Update: MPD has identified the victim shot in the 2600 Block of Bowen Road, Southeast as 19-year-old Antwone Dwayne Tolson. The name of the man killed in the unit block of 55 Street Southeast has not been released yet. Two press releases from MPD have been added to the bottom of this post.

Media reports indicate that two men were killed Monday night within minutes of each other in two different Southeast Washington shootings.

Reports the Washington Post:

One of the incidents occurred around 11:15 p.m. Monday when a man was fatally shot in the unit block of 55th Street SE near East Capitol Street. He was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

Fourteen minutes later, police responded to another call in the 2600 block of Bowen Road SE where a man was shot. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Witness in Johnathan Dawkins Trial: “They Looked Like They Both Wanted to Fight.”

Prosecutors and defense counsel in the trial of Johnathan Dawkins agree that Dwayne Brisbon left his car to fight with Dawkins moments before he was stabbed to death.

But that’s where the agreement ends.

Defense attorney Dominique Winters argued that Brisbon jumped out of his car that night to punch Dawkins in the face. Dawkins was defending himself, Winters said, and he “was not required to let the decedent pummel him.”

Assistant US Attorney Holly Shick disagreed, saying that it wasn’t a fair fight since “the defendant knew he would come out on top because he knew he had a knife.”

James Brown Pleads Guilty to Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Death of Darnell Rivers

James Brown, 23, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a rifle in connection with the shooting death of Darnell Rivers.

In exchange for his plea, Brown will be sentenced to 2 to 3 years in prison. He was originally charged with first-degree premeditated murder, can be punished by life in prison.

As a condition of his plea, James Brown’s brother Tony Brown also pleaded guilty to one count of contempt and one count of escape in a separate case. Documents say that both men had to plead guilty or neither would receive the deal.

Second Man Arrested in Connection With Carlton Coltrane Death

Earl Patrick, 48, was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree felony murder in connection to the assault that lead to the death of 60-year-old Carlton Coltrane, according to MPD.

On May 6, Coltrane was taken to a local hospital after he beaten in a robbery attempt at a 7-Eleven in the 400 block of 8th Street Southeast. Three days later, Coltrane died as a result of his injuries.

Patrick is the second person arrested in connection with this case. Zerrick Brown, 42, was held on suspicion of first-degree felony murder in connection with the case.

Charging documents state that Coltrane was buying groceries in a 7-Eleven near the Eastern Market Metro station when he was dragged out of the store by a man identified as Brown while a second man was “standing and watching as if being a lookout or protector.”

Men Charged with Murder in Death of Tywayne Thompson

Two men accused in the shooting death of 25-year-old Tywayne Thompson have each been charged with first-degree murder, in addition to armed robbery and conspiracy charges.

Carlos Parks, 18, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy, attempted robbery while armed, and two related weapons charges. While Troy Robinson, 19, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy, attempted robbery while armed and three related charges. Both remain held.

Robinson’s defense attorney Kia Sears argued for supervised release awaiting trial, telling the court that the three witnesses who will testify will be refuted by other witnesses.

Man Killed in Saturday Night SE DC Shooting

A shooting in the 2700 block of Langston Place, Southeast killed 36-year-old Simwone Keith Milstead Saturday night, according to MPD.

Police officers responding to a report of a shooting just before midnight found Milstead suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Milstead was then transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Three homicides were reported this week in D.C.

  • The death of 60-year-old Carlton Coltrane, of Southeast D.C., May 9, was ruled a homicide on Sunday by MPD. According to police, Coltrane died of blunt force trauma three days after a robbery on Tuesday, May 6, at approximately 12:50 am, in the 400 block of 8th Street, Southeast.
  • Elike Rahmon Richardson, 36, was found by police suffering from apparent stab wounds in the 4400 block of C Street, Southeast at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Richardson was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
  • Jermaine Dews, 27, was killed in a shooting Wednesday on the 5800 block of Field Place, Northeast. According to police, at approximately 3:10 pm, officers responded to the sounds of gunshots and discovered Dews suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Daquan Tinker, 18, pleaded innocent Tuesday to first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and six related charges in connection with the 2012 shooting death of Terrence Robinson. On August 4, 2012, Robinson was found dead on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his body in the 2600 block of Douglas Road in Southeast, according to court documents.

Zerrick Brown, 42, was arrested Thursday, and held without bond Friday, on suspicion of first-degree felony murder in connection to the death of 60-year-old Carlton Coltrane. Coltrane died three days after being punched and robbed outside a 7-Eleven store on the 400 block of 8th Street, Southeast on May 9, according to charging documents.
