Three Men Indicted in Murder of Akinwole Williams

DeAndre Shaheed, Lafeyette Robinson and Floyd Neal were arraigned Friday on charges of first-degree felony murder while armed, conspiracy, robbery, and other related weapons offenses in connection with the March 2013 shooting death of 31-year-old Akinwole Olu Williams.

The three men pleaded innocent to all charges.

Police found Williams on March 14, 2013 around 11:40 p.m. on the 1000 block of 44th Street Northeast lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

More than two months later Shaheed, 18, was arrested and charged in Williams’ death. Robinson, 19, and Neal, 20, were arrested several weeks later and charged with felony murder in connection with Williams’ death.

Arvel Wills Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison for Death of Cousin

A judge sentenced Arvel Wills to four years in prison Friday in connection with the death of his 25-year-old cousin, Dewayne Wills.

During sentencing Friday, Arvel Wills was visibly upset, often wiping tears from his eyes with a sleeve or a tissue.

What I did was wrong. It was an accident,” Arvel Wills said Friday. “We were like brothers. I love my cousin. I’d never hurt my cousin at all.” Read more

Devon Dominique Parker IDed as Wednesday Shooting Victim

Police have identified the 19-year-old killed in a midday shooting on Howard Road Southeast yesterday as Devon Dominique Parker.

Parker, who lived in Southeast DC, was found 1400 block of Howard Road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Fatal Midday Shooting Near Anacostia Metro

A shooting in the 1400 block of Howard Road Southeast, a few blocks from Anacostia Metro station, killed a 19-year-old man, according to news reports.

NBC Washington reports the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. The man was transported to a nearby hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he died shortly after arrival. Read more

Judge: Probable Cause in Corey Stoddard Manslaughter Case

Corey Stoddard will remain free, though under high-intensity supervision, after a judge found probable cause that he committed voluntary manslaughter when he hit Kevin Lewis Crouch with his tow truck.

Attorneys on both sides agreed Wednesday that Stoddard was the victim of a violent armed robbery committed by Crouch moments before his death. But they disagree about whether Stoddard was defending himself when he drove his tow truck over Crouch.

Prosecutors allege that Stoddard drove on to the sidewalk of Kenilworth Avenue Northeast and ran over Crouch in an effort to retrieve his wallet. Defense attorney Eugene Ohm says that Crouch was pointing a gun at Stoddard when Stoddard was driving the truck.

Oluremi Thomas, Keyonna Proctor Identified as Monday’s Double Homicide Victims

A man and a woman who died Monday night after being shot in a home on Girard Street Northwest have been identified by police. Oluremi Thomas, 36, and Keyonna Proctor, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Georgetown Stabbing Suspect Dead, Police Say

Updated: A press release from MPD has been added to the bottom of this post.

A man arrested in connection with the stabbing death of 88-year-old Leroi Elliott in Georgetown Sunday morning has died.

MPD spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said Tuesday that the suspect, 56-year-old Bradford Nelson Elliott, died of a heart attack Monday while being treated for injuries at a local hospital.

Police found Bradford Elliott’s father and mother stabbed at about 6:30 Sunday morning in their Georgetown home in the 3300 block of Q Street Northwest.

Man, Woman Found Shot in NW DC Home Late Monday Night


UPDATE 3:30 p.m.
MPD has identified the victims as 36-year-old Oluremi Thomas and 24-year-old Keyonna Proctor.

In a listserv message, Councilmember Jim Graham wrote that the deaths of Thomas and Proctor could be drug-related and that “there may also be a suggestion of an execution style killing.” Graham also says that neither victim lived in the apartment.

Tisheena Brown Held in Prescription Drug Overdose Death of Infant Son

A DC mother accused of killing her son by administering him a prescription anti-nausea drug was ordered held at her court appearance Monday, her first on the charge.

Tisheena Brown, 31, is expected to have a preliminary hearing in the case Friday.

In an interview with police, Brown said she gave her son, one-month-old Hakeem Brown, a portion of a dose of Promethazine when he was “fussy” and wouldn’t keep food down.

Georgetown Stabbing Leaves Elderly Man Dead, Wife Wounded

A stabbing at a Georgetown home Sunday morning left 88-year-old Leroi Elliott dead dead and his wife hospitalized, with the couple’s son in custody.

Police responded to the couple’s home in the 3300 block of Q Street Northwest around 6 a.m. Sunday on a report of a stabbing, according to MPD.

Bradford Nelson Elliott, 56, was arrested on scene. Sources told WJLA that he is the couple’s son. Read more
